John Scully - 5th Degree Black Belt (Godan)
Sensei John Scully lives in Saco with his wife Paula, and their three young children. Mr. Scully is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and received his undergraduate education in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania, and his graduate degree in Information Technology from Seton Hall University. Mr. Scully has taught as an adjunct Professor of Finance at Suffolk University, and mentored urban youth through his work with the Year Up organization. In addition, Mr. Scully currently sits on the Board of Trustees of the Bessie Tart Wilson Initiative for Children.
Sensei Scully has been studying martial arts for most of his life. Having practiced multiple styles during his formative years, he began studying Uechi Ryu in the mid 90’s, and is currently a fifth degree black belt (Godan). Mr. Scully’s sensei is Master Ed Huff (Kyudan or 9th Degree Black Belt). With over 45 years of study and 40 years of teaching, Master Huff is one of the earliest practitioners of Uechi Ryu in America.

Meet our visiting Instructors:
Mr. Rivers has been studying Uechi Ryu karate under Master Ed Huff for over 15 years. Having attained the rank of fifth degree black belt (Godan), he has been an assistant instructor and coordinating dojo activities and events for the last 10 years.
Steve Bang - 5th Degree Black Belt (Godan)
Mr. Bang began his study of martial arts in 1967 in Laos as a youth, and was awarded his first black belt in Kenpo while in the army and stationed in Germany in 1979. Mr. Bang began studying Uechi-ryu in 1994 under Master Ed Huff in Boston, and has been both a student and assistant instructor over the years.
In addition to studying Uechi-ryu, Mr. Bang maintains interests in many activities including the art of bonsai, and is an avid western horseman.
Since graduating with an engineering degree from Cornell University in 1994, Mr. Budreski has worked as an Information Technology consultant in various fields of expertise. Highlights of his career include a role at Sapient Corporation, where he was responsible for managing multi-million dollar custom software projects, as well as Medullan Corporation, a start-up in the healthcare information technology field where Mr. Budreski was responsible for company wide business operations while also generating in excess of $2 million dollars per year in new revenue.
Mr. Budreski has been studying Uechi-Ryu Karate for over 15 years. He has his fourth degree black belt (Yondan) under Master Ed Huff. In addition, Mike has been assisting and teaching beginner and intermediate students in Uechi Ryu for the past 12 years.
